Job by job... constantly learning. I am far from amateur, though shy to say expert. I do not deny that I constantly learn new things. It is the fuel that keeps me going, and this blog will document those discoveries and small triumphs. I will keep the struggles to myself.

Typing in the keyword “Dazzler” will bring up a host of sites dedicated to the education of Marvel Comic Super Heroine of the said name. All due respect to comics, I assure you this blog has nothing to do with superheroes. Amidst being contracted by The Penn Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in Philadelphia, I had the opportunity to get intimate with a 5th century vessel originally discovered in the Margarita tomb in Copan, Honduras. The original ceramic vessel had a purpose unknown, yet its elaborate finish qualified it as one of the crown pieces to the excavation. It is a national treasure to the country, which has been forbidden to leave its borders. Enter Wish...

The Show is over, but a winning record was repeated and sustained. Days prior to the show judging it was discovered that only one client would be eligible for the juried competition, and the competition this year was fierce. A Hawaiian theme gave way to some incredible interpretations of elements that we all long for in the tropics, but it was skillful simplicity which won over the critics. It was the year of Schaffer Designs, and I once more praise them for their trust and loyalty. This Best in Show win for them makes for 3 out of 6 years, and a new total 8 out of 7 years for Wish. Next year... the UK.

Anyone who follows Schaffer Designs, or is a general fan of the Philadelphia Flower Show will likely remember the show stopping set from two years ago. Polar Fantasy embraced the idea of an indoor living art piece... We are going back to the idea of that sculpturally rich environment. Works like these are free of “characters” or focal points, as they mimic environments. As fate would have it, this years set will be the complete opposite while playing off of the “same”. The aptly titled Pele will be something very simple in concept, but thru lighting, unique set materials, and the usual Schaffer army of talented florists and designers, will have something very special to offer this year...

It is something of nostalgia which most of us remember from being children. Whether playing in sandboxes or taking vacations to the coast, we never forget being enamored by the effects of wet sand. Most of us have watched as our feet disappeared into surf sand, but the best of us have constructed sand castles with just the right mixture of sand and water, dripping out of our hands. It was my earliest obsession with sculpture... tiny molten castle walls.

Many, many moons later I play with sand again, except it is with my son, and we are trying to duplicate these effects... replacing the water with an epoxy coating. The AIFD exhibit for the Philadelphia International Flower Show (with Hawaiian theme) is centered around “the Big Island” and my sandy, nude friends are being shipped off for Hula inspired adornment.
Stay tuned for very interesting things being constructed for this set.

Some days you just get contacted out of the clear blue. This was not exactly an occasion like that, but close. An investor in ice cream juggernaut Haagen-Dazs contacted Wish about a map-mural for their location in Bethesda,Maryland. After just a few calls and a mtg. at the store, the design is starting to feel very whimsical and fun, gaining inspiration from Dr. Suess, and perhaps Willy Wonka. The end result will be a monster mural made up of 3 rigid canvases, totaling 30’ in length by over 6’ high. This will highlight local monuments and businesses, while maintaining a rich, gallery-ready finish that will leave patrons never at a loss for where to look while savoring every spoonful of Double Dark Chocolate Chunk
